Gas mains replacement work in Haslemere    May 9, 2012

All shops and businesses in Haslemere will remain open

Gas pipeline operator Southern Gas Networks (SGN) are carrying out essential works in Haslemere.

The iron gas main and services have come to the end of their useful life, and are being replaced with durable plastic (polyethylene) pipe.

The project began on 30 April, 2012 and forms part of the ongoing mains replacement programme in the area to maintain the safety and reliability of the gas supply network.

While there is no ideal time for the work to be carried out, it has been planned to ensure it takes place within certain dates to minimise disruption.

The scale and extent of the project and the large diameter of the pipes require heavy plant and equipment to be used. To allow room for manoeuvre of this equipment and to ensure everyone’s safety, there needs to be road closures during the project.

Lower Street will be closed from 30 April for 16 weeks. Shepherd’s Hill will be closed from 30 April for approximately five weeks and then re-opened. Diversions will be in place for HGVs and standard traffic.
